How is the perception of religion changing in our society?
What role does religion play in public life today, and what expectations are placed on it?
And how can religious leaders help foster a relevant and constructive view of religion?

These questions will be the focus of the lecture evening with Heiner Bielefeldt on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Forum am Dom in Osnabrück. The speaker will examine the tension between religion and the public sphere from a human rights perspective.

Heiner Bielefeldt is a senior professor of human rights at Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen. As the UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief, he has dedicated his work to this very field. He combines in-depth expertise in the philosophical and historical foundations of human rights with practical experience gained from his work as a UN Special Rapporteur.
