Event Series: Living Spaces – How Do I Want to Live?

How do we want to live? As individuals and as a society? These questions are particularly pressing in an era marked by rapid change, uncertainty, and growing pressure.
The French philosopher Michel Foucault has pointed out that every society has special places: spaces where familiar orders are shaken, taken-for-granted assumptions are challenged, and new perspectives can emerge. He calls these places “heterotopias”—other places. Using vivid examples—ranging from gardens and festivals to shelters and places of transition—Foucault demonstrates that these “other places” are more than mere deviations from everyday life: they are spaces of critique, disruption, and possibility.
The lecture by Dr. Christoph Hutter takes up Foucault’s idea and explores the role that “otherness” can play today in strengthening social cohesion and experimenting with new forms of coexistence. What kind of “otherness” are we seeking today? How can we foster a greater sense of “we,” more freedom of action, and greater social justice?
